چکیده

Unconjugated bilirubin, conjugated bilirubin, and mixtures of various proportions of each were dissolved in depigmented human serum. These, together with normal and pathologic native human sera, were analyzed for conjugated, unconjugated, and total bilirubin by the Weber-Schalm method. Results were compared with the determination of “prompt direct reacting bilirubin” and of total bilirubin by the Ducci-Watson modification of the Malloy-Evelyn method. Comparisons show that the WeberSchalm method more accurately measures conjugated bilirubin concen#{149} trations in serum in which the bilirubin is mostly conjugated, but that it gives falsely high values for unconjugated bilirubin in serum in which more of the bilirubin is in the unconjugated form. The two methods gave statistically identical total bilirubin values for the native serum tested. A method is described for correcting the unduly low values for prompt, direct reacting bilirubin in terms of percentage of conjugated bilirubin.

Ultramicro method for serum bilirubin by diazo blue reaction.

ROPER CLINICAL MANAGEMENT of infants with erythroblastosis fetalis necessitates the determination of total serum bilirubin. Of the many modifications of the original diazo reaction on blood serum (1) a micromethod using capillary blood is preferable. One tenth miffiliter of serum was used by Davidson et al. (2) in their modification of the Ernst and F#{246}rster (3) method and by With (4, 5) in...

An ultramicro colorimetric method for determination of total and direct serum bilirubin.

A simple reproducible method for the ultramicro determination of total and direct serum bilirubin is presented. This method provides a greater sensitivity than that obtained with other colorimetric ultramicro procedures. Total bilirubin values agree with those obtained with the macro Malloy-Evelyn procedure, but direct-reading bilirubin values were significantly higher with the presented method.

An Automated Method for the Determination of Serum Bilirubin.

The bilirubin method of Rand and DiPasqua (3), which utilizes a stabilized diazonium salt solution of 2,4 dichloraniline, has been adapted to automatic chemical analysis. Both total bilirubin and “1-mm. reacting” bilirubin can be assayed with good accuracy and precision. Data are presented to show excellent agreement with the manually performed procedure and the procedure of Malloy and Evelyn (...

Evaluation of the ABA-100 procedure for total and direct bilirubin in serum or plasma.

We present a modified Evelyn-Malloy method, adapted to the Abbott Biochromatic Analyzer (ABA-100) for the determination of both total and direct bilirubin. It requires less than 25 mul of serum or plasma. At least 50 samples can be assayed per hour with economy of reagent consumption and the precision compares favorably with that for conventional manual methods.

The Determination of Bilirubin with the Photoelectric Colorimeter

The main source of error in the determination of bilirubin in serum by the diazo reaction has been the loss caused by adsorption on the protein precipitate. In addition, the lack of an accurately matching artificial standard and the sensitivity of the azobilirubin color to changes in pH have made accurate calorimetric determinations impossible, without the aid of some type of objective photomet...
